Household Water Tap Filters

Among some of the most useful and important devices to have in your homes are household water tap filters. Common tap water is a possible source of water-borne contaminants that can be detrimental to your family’s health, and using household water tap filters is absolutely essential in preventing any potential health risks.

Types of water filters

Shopping for household water tap filters can be a daunting experience, as there are quite a few different models to choose from out there. To make the task a bit easier, it would be helpful to realize that household water tap filters come in four basic types:

  • Carafe filters
  • Counter-top filters
  • Under sink filters
  • Water tap filters

All of these household water tap filters have their relative advantages and disadvantages, and your decision to go with any one of them should be determined by your particular needs. Carafe filters may be better suited to households that do not require too much filtered water. Such filters usually have limited capacities, although they do have the benefit of being easy to use immediately, since most models do not even require installation. Countertop filters generally have larger capacities and are fairly easy to install as well. However, the main drawback to these filters is that they can take up a lot of counter space. For most households, household water tap filters provide a good balance between ease of use and cost. And since they rely on water from your mains, they can provide you with virtually limitless filtered water.

In addition to these types of household water tap filters, there are also extensive filter systems intended to supply filtered water throughout the entire house. Such systems can be very expensive, and the fact that they typically require qualified technicians to install further adds to the cost.

Shopping for an on tap water filter

When choosing from the many household water tap filters available on the market, it is necessary to determine whether or not the models you are considering are suitable for your faucet. If you have a faucet with a spray hose fitted, you have to make sure that the aerator can be removed, as this will be necessary for installing most household water tap filters.

You may also want to look around for household water tap filters that come with an electronic indicator. Typically battery powered, these indicators will let you know when your filter has to be changed.

For many people who use household water tap filters, there is often a need to use the same faucet for tasks in which filtered water isn't necessary. For washing dishes or laundry for instance, using filtered water is wasteful and unnecessary, and will put a lot of unneeded wear and tear on household water tap filters. If you plan to use the same faucet for these other tasks, it may be worth your while to look into household water tap filters that allow you to switch between filtered and unfiltered water with a flick of a switch.
